Two concerts from Nick Vollebregt's Jazz Café, for more than 30 years the venue for the world's longest running live jazz radio program. Our program starts with Gerard Kleijn, a young trumpet players and one of the most active musicians on the European scene.
In 2003 trombone virtuoso Ilja Reijngoud won the Thelonious Monk Award for his composition "No Substitute." Reijngoud graduated cum laude from the Amsterdam Conservatory and has played in countless bands since then. He is now one of the top trombonists in Europe, admired for his powerful tone and virtuosity. His own band, the Ilja Reijngoud Quartet, issued its first CD New Arrival in 2003.
